St Mary’s Food Bank, Packing Boxes

This volunteering event is done in concert with the Humanist Society of Greater Phoenix the second Saturday of the even months.

Please wear your Good Without God t-shirt.  If you don’t have one, you can receive a free one that day.

Plan on gathering afterwards for conversation at Denny’s Restaurant just east of I-17, southeast corner of I-17 and Thomas Road.

St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance, the world's first food bank, is a non-sectarian, nonprofit organization that alleviates hunger by efficiently gathering and distributing food to sites that serve the hungry. Serving two-thirds of Arizona's 15 counties, the organization is committed to volunteerism, building community relationships and improving the quality of life for Arizonans in need.  One in four children in AZ lives in poverty.  Many don’t eat all weekend and not until the school hot lunch program on Mondays.

Want to help even more? GWG is aiming to be named a HUNGER HERO, which means we will have to volunteer at St. Mary's 100 cumulative volunteer hours, donate $1,000, and donate 1,000 lbs of food. If you'd like to help us reach this goal, consider bringing some healthy food to donate (bottled water, peanut butter, canned or dry beans, or other healthy foods are always needed). And please consider making a donation.

Youth are welcome ages 12 and up.

Details for the day:

Parking is limited on some days due to activity at their campus locations. Let’s try to carpool as much as possible.  You can email each other on this site or leave a comment for a ride.

Due to Health codes and safety reasons, a required dress policy is in effect! Volunteers MUST wear CLOSE-TOED SHOES, Shirts need to be short or long sleeved (No tank tops, spaghetti straps, etc.) and Shorts are okay. If you have a Good Without God t-shirt, please wear it.  If you don’t already have one, you will get a free one for attending.  Please leave valuables, purses or backpacks in your vehicle for your safety and security! St. Mary’s Food Bank is not responsible for lost and/or stolen items brought into our facilities! Stay alert at all times— Please DO NOT operate Cell Phones or IPods on the volunteer floor!

Please RSVP so we have an accurate count.

NOTE:   There is a $1 charge to attend this event.

This was a great meet up and very much enjoyed it, and so did my husband. We look forward to doing more with the group. Everyone was really fun and enthusiastic. This was also a first meet up and it was a great experience.

I'd like to go, but i'd need a RIDE. I live near CENTRAL & CAMELBACK. I could also take the Light Rail to Central & Thomas. If you can give me a lift, please call me at [masked]-0334. I can't take calls during work hours, but I will get back to you at lunch or after work. Thanks in advance!

I'm on 44th and Camelback. I could swing by. PM me where you want me to pick you up. I'll probably arrive 30 minutes before noon.

    Hi all,

Just a reminder to fill out the volunteer form if you haven't already. It is located here: http://www.meetup.com/Humanist-Society-of-Greater-Phoenix/files/, third file from the bottom. Bring it with you the day of the event.

Yes. People go to lunch afterward to socialize. Not everyone goes, but having a lunch for interested people is routine.

I was invited to lunch last time but was unable to attend. Can we have one this time?

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
