In It to Win: Building a Nontheist Rights Movement
Humanists have experienced many legal successes historically, but recently our track record is mixed at best. It's time for a fresh approach to these issues, in and out of the courts. Roy Speckhardt, executive director of the American Humanist Association, will explain how the Religious Right got the upper hand and what we can do about it. Armed with new strategy, we'll chart a new course together and discuss the next priorities for expanding nontheist rights in America.
Roy's BIO:
Roy Speckhardt is executive director of the American Humanist Association where he actively promotes the humanist perspective on progressive political issues. He’s appeared on CNN Headline News, Fox News, numerous national radio shows, and has spoken to dozens of local humanist groups across the country. He also serves as a board member of the Humanist Institute and the United Coalition of Reason and as an advisory board member of the Secular Student Alliance. He holds an M.B.A. from George Mason University and a B.A. in sociology from Mary Washington College.

What's New at the AHA?
Today, the American Humanist Association is one of the most active secular organizations in the country, working to lobby Congress on humanist issues, promote science and reason in education, protect the church-state wall, and build a network of humanist groups across the country--all to represent the growing number of Americans who are "good without God." Maggie Ardiente, development director of the AHA, will give an update on the AHA's latest efforts to promote humanism and nontheism at the national level.
Maggie's BIO:
Maggie Ardiente is the director of development and communications at the American Humanist Association. She also serves as editor of Humanist Network News, the AHA's weekly e-zine now with over 35,000 subscribers. She graduated from James Madison University in 2005 and served as Vice President of the JMU Freethinkers, a campus group for atheists, agnostics, and humanists.
