Ms. Elizabeth Murad

BIO: Liz is a former Catholic nun who took her vows in the Order of the Sisters of St. Felix of Cantalice in 1958. She received her Master's in 'Clinical Social Work' from Rutgers University in the 70's.

Liz murad is an ex-nun who is now an atheistic Humanist~~~and happily, joyfully so! She spent 16 years in religious life, gradually "losing"her faith and gaining the freedom of her own thoughts.  Five and a half years after she left the convent, she met and married the love of her life, Jim Murad. He was already a Humanist and together they both formed a professional and a romantic partnership.  After 29 years together, Jim started his journey to becoming stardust. Liz sought out other freethinkers and has become actively involved with the Treasure Coast Humanists and the Atheists of the Treasure Coast.

Liz enjoys writing and discussions with other freethinkers. She has led a number of presentations with her local groups. She's also was featured in the December 2011 edition of 'Freethought News', (Freedom From Religion Foundation's newsletter) and also in the AHA online newsletter. Liz lives in Fort pierce with her best friend (and fellow humanist), their  two Jack Russel's, two cats.

Favorite Freethinker:

One of among many is Robert Ingersoll. His writings inspire me, spin my mind and warm my heart. I only wish I could have heard him speak.

As an adolesent catholic I experienced the other end of the ruler so to speak and always wondered why the nuns had a particular attitude. Liz offered insight that explained a lot! She is a courageous woman of superior intellect and suffered far more than I did at the hands of the church. Her story was enlightening, heartening and genuine! I would listen to her presentation again and enjoy it immensely!

Ms. Murad enlightened everyone present about her life as a Catholic Nun. She was very informative and at the same time very funny. Everyone enjoyed her talk. She indicated that a book is in the works. Hopefuly Ms. Murad will finish it and have it published soon.

Excellent. In the top 10 of all time. Funny, specific, and much more than you'd expect.

I was very impressed with Ms Liz's' humor, candidness, poetry and and especially her terrific story about her 'struggle' in the convent. We all look forward to her journal/book very soon. Thank you again Ms Liz!

liz was very interesting and thoughtfull as she presented her life to those in attendance. She had a great sense of humor and was very down to earth. I am happy for her that she was "reborn" to humanism.
