using python for maps and geographic and spatial analysis

Python is a popular language in the field of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and spatial analysis and is used as the main scripting language by a host of both open source and proprietary tools. I will be giving a very brief introduction to the field, talk a little bit about the sort of projects I work on and showing some of the tools and libraries available for python. Then there will be a hands on session where we do some simple spatial analysis and an introduction to how to create maps in python for data presentation.
