Looking for a fun, and safe group to connect with other moms and their children in nature once a week? Spending time outdoors doesn't require expensive play spaces, or equipment. The Great Falls National Park is our PLAYGROUND, and is a treasure trove of adventure just waiting to be explored.
We are a “true free play” group where the kids make it up as they go - where they use their own boundless imagination, curiosity, and creativity to power their ever-changing world of play. We meet in the same spot in the morning, but its up to you, and your child if you want to play together, or go off exploring other parts of the park. The choice is yours.
We are an unstructured, mixed-age outdoor play group that meets in the Great Falls National Park every Tuesday from 10am - 12 Noon in most weather-conditions that are not dangerous (we do not meet in the rain) “ There’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing” . True outdoor play means that kids will occasionally get muddy, and wet! Being properly dressed for all weather occasions makes a world of difference between a warm, and toasty happy child vs. a cold, and wet unhappy child. Once you join you will be able to read the cold weather layering list of clothing suggestions to help keep you and your child warm & dry.
Feel bring to bring your morning cup of joe, or hot tea in a thermos as you sit back and enjoy as your child explores their natural world around them. As a friendly reminder we follow the rules of Mother-Nature, and protect our parks by cleaning up after ourselves, and by taking only memories, and leaving only footprints.
Great Falls National Park is a beautiful 800-acre park located at 9200 Old Dominion Dr. Mclean, VA 22102. This is a national park so it's patrolled by park rangers for that little extra peace of mind as we explore the outdoors. If you require assistance, contact Park Rangers at 703-285-2965. First aid services are available in the Visitor Center. Public restrooms are also located inside the visitor center.
The day pass entrance is $5.00 per vehicle, or $20.00 for a year long pass into this beautiful park. This pass not only gives you access to the Great Falls side, but to the C&O Canal on the Maryland side of the river as well. You can get your pass at the main front entrance into the park. This is one of the most beautiful parks in the area, and is well worth your investment** Older Kids may enjoy bringing along field guides to identify plants, birds, wildlife, or exploring the trails. This is a great "living classroom" for all ages
