What we’re about

We are a group of people with Celiac Disease, gluten-intolerance, or are gluten free by choice, who enjoy sharing information about Celiac Disease, eating gluten-free food, and getting to know others who are sharing our food choices. We can all relate to each other's sagas of being misdiagnosed and sick for many years and our meetups are a great time to get together and share stories and gluten-free tips. We are hoping this group will provide an opportunity for people to get together and learn about living Gluten Free while having fun.

Celiac disease is a digestive condition triggered by consumption of the protein gluten, which is found in bread, pasta, cookies, pizza crust and many other foods containing wheat, barley or rye. Oats may contain gluten as well. When a person with celiac disease eats foods containing gluten, an immune reaction occurs in the small intestine, resulting in damage to the surface of the small intestine and an inability to absorb certain nutrients from food.

Gluten intolerance means just that, a person reacts negatively when they products containing gluten.  This intolerance to gluten can have many causes but still necessitates a gluten free lifestyle.

We encourage people to join who have Celiac disease, are gluten intolerant, are gluten free by choice, or have friends or family members who are eating Gluten free. We plan to have Meetup events for our group that include: gluten-free dinners, happy hours with gluten-free beer, food and product focus groups, gluten-free cooking sprees, vendor fairs, gluten-free discounts, lectures, and much more.
