Join a large group of volunteers to combat ivy and other invasive plants in Cunningham Woods at the University of Victoria. This event takes place during Earth Fest (Oct. 6 - 10). Come out and learn about the restoration project happening at UVic, and the beautiful forest ecosystems found on campus! Space is limited, so be sure to RSVP as soon as possible. There will be two sessions to join (this one at 9:45am) or the next one at 1:45pm (please sign up separately).

Meeting Spot

Meet at the Student Union Building at the University of Victoria in front of Cinecenta theatre. There is a big parking lot off Sinclair Road and Gabriola Road. Parking

Available at Parking Lot 2 off of Sinclair Road and Gabriola Road MAP (https://www.google.ca/maps/place/Gabriola+Rd,+University+of+Victoria,+Victoria,+BC/@48.4673752,-123.3106812,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x548f715a3572f055:0x362997d92d39378a)Parking is paid, but we will issue a few parking passes to those that need to park.

Activities

  • Meet at 9:45am for sign-in and introductions, and brief overview (please be on time!)

  • Walk to site. Follow the arrows if you're late.

  • Removal of the invasive English ivy and other pesky invasive.

What to bring

  • Refillable water bottle

  • Dress for the weather. Rain jacket/pants if it rains, sunscreen and a hat in case it is sunny

  • Long-sleeved shirt and long pants to protect you from thorny plants and ticks

  • Clothing you don't mind getting dirty and muddy

  • Sturdy, comfortable closed-toe shoes/boots.

We will provide

  • Gardening gloves if you don't have them

  • Tools

  • Instructions on what to do. You don't need to have experience to participate!

  • A fun experience in a beautiful park!

Getting yourself there

Transit. To find out the best route from where you are, please go to http://www.bctransit.com/regions/vic/?p=2.list . Or use the Google Maps (https://www.google.ca/maps/preview) option, type in the original destination, click on Directions, and type in where you are going to. Make sure the bus icon is chosen. Many buses go to UVic so it is better to take transit if you can!

Carpool. If you need a ride log into your Meet-up account, RSVP and leave a message at the bottom of this event page describing where you need a ride from.

Cycling. You can also use Google Maps (https://www.google.ca/maps/preview) to find a good cycling route.
