We are a Boston Area Chapter of the American Humanist Association and we post our activities here (along with those of other local and national secular groups of interest to our membership). Who are we? We are people living in the Boston Metropolitan area (extending into southern New Hampshire and down the Cape) who believe in a humanistic worldview, which is secular (non-religious), and as Kurt Vonnegut put it: "I am a Humanist, which means, in part, that I have tried to behave decently without expectations of rewards or punishments after I am dead."
We like to get together welcoming other skeptics, atheists and freethinking people, in formal and informal humanistically-oriented activities, such as our monthly speaker series, small group socials, and luncheon meetings, as well as the occasional film or community event. We also try to promote other relevant secular and humanistic events from other chapters and groups in this geographical area, promoting science, reason and freethought. We are a membership organization and a chapter of the American Humanist Association. We were founded in 1972 as Humanist Association of Massachusetts and helped seed many of the other great local secular and humanist groups in the state. AHA 4-Part Course starts 8/5: "Humanist Care in Times of Grief"
·OnlineOnlineThe American Humanist Association is offering a 4 part course called a "Compassion in Practice: Humanist Care in Times of Grief" with Lisa Reshad**, on Wednesdays from this upcoming August 5 until the 26th.**
Join Lisa Reshad (a board-certified Humanist chaplain serving full-time in a hospital setting, focus on grief counseling, palliative care, moral injury, and suicide prevention) for this four-week series in August, designed to help you gain insights into your own experiences of coping with grief, while also giving you tools to facilitate healthier grief care sessions for those secular and non-religious persons you provide care. The series will provide you with insights, ideas, and a grief guide created by Lisa; a helpful tool for both humanist chaplains and celebrants.

"Come join the Humanist Chaplaincy at Harvard & MIT for an evening with Representative Jared Huffman (D-CA) about his new book, No Prophets: The Fight to Save Democracy from Christian Nationalism. In conversation with esteemed author and filmmaker Sasha Sagan and Humanist Chaplain at Harvard & MIT Greg Epstein, these humanist leaders will discuss the grip that Christian nationalistic ideologies have on government.
This event will take place on Thursday, September 3rd at 7pm in the Thompson Room of Harvard University’s Barker Center, 12 Quincy St., Cambridge. A copy of the book will be included with each $35 ticket, which will be available for pickup at the venue. A book signing and meet-and-greet with Jared Huffman will occur after the event. The Humanist Chaplaincy at Harvard and MIT is dedicated to building an inclusive community of atheists, agnostics, and allies at Harvard, MIT, and beyond: we are creating a new model for how humanists celebrate life, promote reason and compassion, and better the world for all. Humanism is a progressive life stance that, without supernaturalism, affirms our ability and responsibility to lead ethical lives of personal fulfillment, aspiring to humanity's greater good. The purpose of this event is to introduce the chaplaincy to the MIT community and create space for alums of both schools to share thoughts on the future direction of humanism.
