What we’re about
Permaculture aims to regenerate healthy, productive landscapes and communities by consciously applying ecological principles to the design of human habitats. It is a theory, a mindset, and a lens for looking at the world in order to create a sustainable and just planet for all. Permaculture’s three ethics - Earth Care, People Care and Fair Share - and its twelve principles are used to design systems that create and foster healthy relationships. Through this discipline, each of us can take greater responsibility for ourselves and our world by developing life skills for sustainable living to become active participants and producers.
“Permaculture gives us a toolkit for moving from a culture of fear and scarcity to one of love and abundance.” -Toby Hemenway (permaculturist & author)
What we do: We build community, share ideas and learn how to move forward mindfully and in tune with the ethics of Earth Care, People Care and Fair Share. Through the Seacoast NH Permaculture Meetup and other partner organizations we bring people together by offering workshops, speakers, movies, discussions, swaps, potluck meals and other events.
"We don't know what details of a truly sustainable future are going to be like, but we need options, we need people experimenting in all kinds of ways and permaculturists are one of the critical gangs that are doing that." -Dr. David Suzuki (geneticist, broadcaster, environmentalist)
Our mission: Seacoast NH Permaculture Group empowers individuals and communities to work together to create resiliency through the use of Permaculture in the NH seacoast area and beyond. We inspire and teach each other by sharing skills, knowledge, and regenerative practices, nurturing our connections and celebrating our work.
“You cannot save the land apart from the people or the people apart from the land.” -Wendell Berry (farmer, environmentalist, author)
Land Acknowledgment: Indigenous cultures, past and present, have been an inspiration to our learning and the development of permaculture. To honor them and to deepen our connection to and understanding of the land we are living on, we share that the Seacoast of NH is the traditional ancestral homeland of the Abenaki, Pennacook and Wabanaki Peoples. We are grateful to them for stewarding this area so beautifully for thousands of years and continuing that work now. They invite us to join their efforts – see indigenousnh.com to learn more.

- Work Party: Soil Building & Pasture ManagementLiving Land Permaculture Homestead, Barrington, NH
Building soil through hugelkultur and animal rotation are important skills. The health of our gardens, our food, and our planet all improve with these techniques.
This work party will involve moving material into place for expanding pasture and hugelkultur beds. It will not be very heavy lifting - more a many hands make light work setup! There will be a tour of areas previously created this way so you can see the results.
Please dress for work, including sturdy shoes, and bring work/garden gloves if you have them. Your own water bottle is a good idea, too.
COST: This series is an exchange of your working energy for the knowledge and skill building of our hosts. No payment is expected but your support is always appreciated!
Announcing Seacoast Permaculture Work Parties: experiential learning and mutual support events!
Over the years many have told us that they would welcome an opportunity for more hands on skill building. Books, videos, podcasts and classes are amazing, but to actually participate in the work is often the best learning experience.
We also believe that coming together to help each other with our projects is a great way to build community and support for the important work we are engaged in. It is also a joyful way to spend our time!
In 2025 we launch the program by gathering at three homesteads to learn how to build soil, to put a garden to bed for the winter and to plant garlic. These are some basic techniques that are the core of homesteading or garden management.
Come together to learn through doing!

- The Work That ReconnectsSaltonstall Farm, Stratham, NH$5.00
In these challenging times we invite you into an afternoon of rejuvenation with The Work That Reconnects. This is a set of practices developed by Joanna Macy to support and re-energize folks who are working to create change in the world. There are four stages, beginning in gratitude, the moving through honoring our pain, seeing with new eyes, and going forth. The practices help make space for grief, anger and uncertainty while also cultivating possibility and joy.
We are gathering on the beautiful Saltonstall Farm in Stratham - a fully accessible space. We will be outside and inside the spacious, airy barn.
COST: We request a sliding scale donation of $5-50 per person. To reserve your space, we are taking a $5 deposit. You can pay that here with paypal or by check: Seacoast Permaculture, 219 France Rd, Barrington, NH 03825. The check option means you will not be charged an extra fee by meetup! Please bring cash or check if you can contribute further that day.
