The eco mushroom farm is near Tai Po and is run by the NGO
Mushroom Initiative (http://ecomushrooms.org/)
. They use recycled coffee grounds, wood chips, food waste and tofu waste to make a substrate suitable to grow organic mushrooms. Once the mushrooms have been grown the substrate is used as fertilizer for the farm's vegetables.

The Visit
We plan to go the 10th September 2016 between 1.30pm-4pm
Visitors to the site get a guided tour which lasts around 2-3 hours ;
• We kick off with some coffee to get us started !
• We have a 45 minute talk on mushrooms and how the mushrooms are grown.
• Then we do a hands on class to create the substrate suitable for growing the mushrooms.
• Then we tour of the farm which includes seeing where the mushrooms grow and seeing the vegetables that are also grown on the farm.
• We get to take a glass jar which contains 2 or 3 crops of mushrooms to be grown at home ( don't worry - instructions will be given :-)
The farm is also close to Kadoorie Farm (http://www.kfbg.org/) should you want to visit that before our event.
Our group must number between 20-30 people. They need confirmation of the event 3 weeks in advance so we will need paid signups over the next two weeks. The reason for this is that they have to cultivate the mushroom spores in advance so we can take some home. Sign up and we will contact you before the deadline for payment.
Also if you are interested in sustainability and coffee join our facebook (https://www.facebook.com/groups/hkccea/) group or check the website (http://scf.hk/) too !
