GreenspaceNYC’s invites you to “go green” at our Spring Health Food (SHELF) Forum and Potluck! The SHELF Forum is an event where we will discuss the impact the food we eat has on our health and planet. The first forum discussion will be a lecture and discussion about foodprints, the resource consumption of different food staples and diets. Several other speakers will join us to discuss seasonality, local purchasing, diet/nutrition, and urban farming. (Fun Fact: Hack Manhattan is home to a small rooftop farm and urban garden.)

Changing your diet is a major undertaking and is best done with the support of others. The SHELF potluck is meant as a way for people to share their methods of making healthy food, good tasting food. It also gives people a chance to talk to those who are experienced Paleos or Vegans, to see if it is right for them. Prizes will be awarded to the best dishes in each category and a Grand Prize to the dish that best represents Spring. The main food categories are: Brunch , Vegan, Vegetarian, Spicy, Gluten Free, Raw, “Paleo”, and “Mainly Fruit”.

There isn’t a limit to the number of categories one dish can enter, but dishes entering a category should adhere to that standard (Vegan is Vegan, Raw is uncooked, and so on). Drinks (non-alcoholic and alcoholic) will be provided free of charge.

Be creative! Be Innovative! Join us for an afternoon of culinary delights, good conversation and come away knowing more about the importance of the food you eat. We welcome food enthusiasts, chefs, and all! Bring a friend, participate by cooking and donate a dish, and enjoy an afternoon meal at our community event. Join us on Saturday, June 14th, 2014, at 2:00pm at Hack Manhattan.

Discussion led by Andrew Haner and Dan Bourbeau.

Andrew, principal of sun|tect: architecture, has over a decade of experience in architectural design and construction, specializing in commercial, residential, retail, and interiors work.

Dan is an engineer and member of Citizens Climate Lobby(NYC).

Both speakers are regular contributors to GreenspaceNYC's workshops and educational initiatives.
