We have a wonderfully diverse group in Greenwich, we have a variety of classes in the month that address the range of our experiences. Once a month a 'Focus on...' and once a month a 'Sweat Your Prayers'. The other classes in the month will be regular Waves classes, with a warm-up and a guided Wave.
'Focus on...' is a taught 5Rhythms class where we'll exlore one of the rhythms in more detail. We'll have exercises that hightlight some specific teaching, and then dace a Wave, offering you the space to incorporate whatever you have discovered into your dance. It’s for everyone who is curious to dwell a little longer on some perspective of the Rhythms.
Sweat Your Prayers is an ‘untaught’ 5Rhythms Wave - It’s particularly for people who have had experience of taught 5Rhythms classes, as a space to use those teachings, to listen attentively to your self, guided by your body, the music, the group and the Rhythms themselves.
Wave is a regular class, we’ll have a warm up and guided dance through the 5Rhythms. Everybody welcome, new and experienced dancers alike.
5 Rhythms is a way to liberate yourself through dance. Give yourself the freedom to move your body, release inhibitions and be yourself just as you are in each moment. A 5Rhythms class is an opportunity to develop creativity, to stretch into our imaginations as well as our bodies.
The Rhythms are: Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, and Stillness. They are danced in sequence in what is called 'The Wave'. In movement we explore: the fluidity of flowing, the focus of staccato, the release of chaos, the light of lyrical and the emptyness of stillness.
There are no steps to learn, instead we learn to listen to ourselves. Whatever your age, ability, fitness or experience of dance, you are very welcome. All you need is willingness, curiosity and a desire to move.
Everybody welcome. These are drop-in classes, no need to book, just come along.
Timings: The class starts at 11.30am. Some of our publicity says 11.15am, apologies for any confusion this may cause. You are welcome to start arriving from 11.15am. Door closes at 12.
What to bring: water to drink and wear comfortable clothes to move in. Dance barefoot or in soft-soled shoes.
