From John Wren:

From the time of Socrates, one of the most powerful tools for learning and personal growth is leading or just being a member of a small group.

At each meeting of this group, I'll share some of my experience with small groups and ask you to share yours with us about groups you've been in, that you are in now, or that you are thinking of starting soon.

I've been in a lot of small groups, my brother says my tombstone will say, "He never met a group he didn't like." Some of my small group experience includes:

Since 1994, what we now call The IDEA Cafe Startup Workshop has been meeting. Each week we invite successful people to share how they started and we brainstorm. We are now part of the Small Business Chamber of Commerce, which has been formed to help local chambers to start similar groups. http://meetup.com/SBCC-Startup-Workshops

In 1727 Ben Franklin formed a group of friends together in what they called the Junto. They met together each Friday evening for "mutual improvement"  for over 30 years. Franklin called it "the best school." In 1996 I formed the first Franklin Circle in Denver based on Franklin's original group.

In 2001 we held our first Socrates Cafe here in Denver. Inspired by Christopher Phillips book Socrates Cafe, we've met hundreds of times to seek truth by our own lights. http://meetup.com/Denver-Socrates-Cafe

In Colorado one of the most powerful groups is our Colorado Caucus. In 2002 I joined with others to form "Save the Caucus" which would have eliminated it. http://www.COCaucus.org

I'll share at the start of each meeting, then open up the floor for questions and discussion. Please join us if you are interested in starting or joining a small group. And please invite your friends who might be interested to join us too.
