Tankful To Be Riding ~ Sun 5/18/14, 9:30 AM, STP

What: Tankful to be riding !!!

When:  Sunday 5/18/14, Arrive at 9:30 AM for coffee and gossip, KSU 10 AM•

• Where:  Skywood Trading Post (STP) 17287 Skyline Boulevard, Woodside, CA

Across the street from Alice's Restaurant, where Skyline and Hwy 84 meet.  Look for us near STP gas pumps.  KSU with full tanks at 10 AM.

Route: TBD .... expect technical back-roads in 408, 831 and 650 area codes. There will be bumps, tight switch-backs with decreasing radius, etc. (not for newbies).  Lunch in 831 area code.  Ride ends back in civilization around 4 PM.

Pace: Not too fast. Not too slow. Just right.

Gear: Head to toe.

Motorcycle: Yes, please bring one with you ;-)

-    -    -    -    -    -    -    -    -    -    -

Words of Wisdom:

- Please review Liability Release statement at THIS LINK

- Proper gear, a working machine and gas in the tank is highly recommended.

- Ensure you and your motorcycle are in good working conditions.

- Ride within your comfort zone and leave room for bad karma.

- Ride staggered in straights. In twisties single file and 2-3 seconds apart.

- Lead may pass slower traffic when it's safe. You don't have to. Remember, someone will wait for you at turns, so just relax and have fun.

- Leads will maintain the Pace according to road conditions with safety of all riders in mind. Be mindful of others in the group. Let faster riders get ahead of you by moving to the right and signaling them to pass you. And if you want to pass the rider(s) who are in front of you, make sure to do so safely and without startling them.

- Do not make unsafe passes, or pass from the right.

- When we stop at gas stations, fill up. That may be the only gas stop of the ride.

- If you need to leave early, be sure to tell the lead and sweep. Be in the back of the group when leaving so no one follows.

- It's a good idea to have road side emergency and towing service membership (e.g., AAA). It pays off after one tow.

- Carry water and snacks.

- Good stuff to read before going on group rides (CLICK).

- Please keep an eye for the rider(s) behind you so they won't take a wrong turn. If they get lost, we all have to go look for them:

Thanks to the gentleman who noticed my scalped tire, Bob Ratto who volunteered to follow me home, and Jens who offered encouragement. Made it with no problems. See you all next Sunday.

I know he had plenty on the edges. In such as cases, just like mazes, one needs to just keep turning in the same one direction (right or left, not both) until you arrive at your destination -- Wherever you go, there you are.

    • Marty M.

Good thing Dave was taking it easy on Sunday, like he said he would ;-)

I for one am very tankful. It sure was a nice day to be out and about. When looking through the photos, be sure to see the frosty clouds, blue sky, the sapphire ocean, and the wonderful landscape with its fifty shades of green. We should all be tankful to live close to the best moto roads in the entire solar system. Special tanks to our volunteers and recruits for keeping the group intact. And thanks to all who came out to play. Until next time :-)

    7 · May 18, 2014

Thanks for the brief ride today. Made it home with oil in the sump.. Now to find the source of the leak. Thanks and see you all next time.

    1 · May 18, 2014

    • Lorne B

After taking stuff apart and cleaning it up.. I then went for a quick run and sure enough... I have a leak.. but it looks to be drive shaft seal which is a pretty simple job. 3 or 4 hours of shop time max.. and while they are at it they can replace the clutch slave seal.

      May 18, 2014

    • Bob R.

Glad its not the crankcase, that would make your shop time go through the roof

      May 18, 2014

    May 17, 2014

    • Grady F.

Thats OK, I still have Singh's DOT-3 fluid on the GTL. So if Bob doesn't mind mixing DOT-3 with DOT-4 (DOT-3.5?), he's covered. I just hope his back brake holds up longer than Dan's.

Hey look I'm an official Road Marshall. Yeeee!! =) Do I give a speech now? "Ahem...I want to thank Mehran and the Usual Suspects...." haha

I think I can guess this route. I am guessing some Tunitas, Lobitos, Stage, Colverdale, Gazos, Swanton, Boonie Doon, Martins, Empire, Jameison, 236, and 9? But every time I think I know the route, Mehran always throws in a road I've never seen. I never cease to be amazed at Mehran's knowledge of back roads. =)
    Let's Ride!

Hello and Happy Friday my fellow riders. :) I'm reporting to be very Tankful to be alive. This past Wednesday I avoided (yet another) getting knocked over by cage-commuter by using my right foot. A car pulled right into my lane and had I not instinctively kicked out my foot he\she would've continued on their path and right into me. Unfortunately, my ankle took the brunt of the impact and am now forced to wear a boot. Good news is, I live to ride another day and I should be back on the motorcycle within 3 weeks. Bad news...I won't be making this trip unless you guys need a Jeep to follow with supplies. ;) Ride safe all...and again Happy Friday!

    May 16, 2014

    • Bob R.

Hey Tony, late to this..get well soon, let me know if you need anything.

About lunch: We'll stop for lunch in Davenport. Those who can, bring snack or sandwich. For the rest, there are 4 places to eat. Three are where we stop. The 4th place is down the road. We have a table for 20 at Davenport Café / Arro's Deli ... right upfront. For the rest, Whale City is also there, but they don't take reservations. If you get there before I do, ask for "Mehran's table, party of 20 :-)". You can order from Davenport Cafe's menu or grab a sandwich or salad from Arro's Deli. Lunch stop is one hour. We might split into 2-3 groups of 15-20 each or keep our usual caravan going. Stay tuned ;-)
