About Tropical Coconut Grove Walking Meetup Group

Hi Everyone! The purpose of this Fitness Walk is to enjoy a nice walking workout while touring through a picturesque and scenic tropical landscape. We'll visit quiet secluded neighborhoods not normally seen by residents or visitors to this area. And of course there's always plenty of interesting (hopefully!) conversation going on amongst the walkers. The Star Attraction of the walk is the natural tropical beauty throughout the Coconut Grove area (parts you would never find on your own). You'll find we have a wide diversity of interesting people from many different cultural and professional backgrounds. We have doctors, scientists, professors, attorney's, real estate specialists, IT professionals and many more. The Meetup Group starts and ends in front of 'G by Guess' this is a clothing store at 3000 Grand Ave. which is directly next to the Starbucks in the Grove. Our walk starts south on Grand Ave to Main which will give you a glimpse of the most popular central city sections of Coconut Grove. Then we'll continue down Main Ave towards Douglas Rd by way of a scenic tree covered walking/biking path. Once we get to Douglas Rd we'll immediately head into a very secluded, quiet area of tropical neighborhoods deep in the Grove. This whole area has really nice vibes to it. One of the homes (mansion) is so big it has it's own Roman Ruins in the front yard (I guess it's a re-creation). After going through this beautiful area we'll come out by a really nice sunken tree-lined park called Merrie Christmas Park. Then it's off into the Gables/Old Cutler area of nice neighborhoods. Then we walk over to a scenic bridge with a postcard perfect slow moving river facing north by northwest (great for viewing sunsets, assuming it's not raining). Then we walk past the giant Hiking Boots in the center of the Circle (where Le Jeune, Old Cutler Rd and Sunset Dr all intersect. We then continue down Old Cutler Rd towards Fairchild Tropical Gardens to SW 88th Street (Kendall Drive/Arvida Parkway) this is our normal turn around point to head back to the Grove (usually with on alternate route. This entire section is also on a tree covered walking/bike path next to some really incredibly cool looking houses. We would normally turn around at SW88 St. and head back to the Grove starting point. If we were especially energetic and wanted to add another ½ mile to the total walk we could continue south about a ¼ of a mile to Matheson Hammock Park and hit a very small wooded trail there. Then turn around.

Below is a link to the schedule of upcoming walking events. It will include Date, Time, Place, Walk Mileage and approximate time to complete. Depending on weather conditions some of these events may have a status of Cancelled. Walking in the Grove during heavy rains and thunderstorms is not cool. I?ve been stuck there a couple of times. If there only chances of light rain then no problem bring your umbrella and five minutes after it starts it?s gone. It will take me a couple of days to get complete the webpage but it will be up shortly. Certainly in time for the Saturday evening walk weather permitting.
