GCLUG Monthly Meeting

Details

Our focus for this meeting will be the formulation of a statement of purpose for the users group. Call it a mission statement, or a purpose, what we want to develop, in writing, is an overarching guideline that will define our reason for being and guide our planning for the future.

At the last meeting, the idea of a LinuxFest was floated to be held within the next 18 months to two years. To ever accomplish something of this magnitude in Greensboro, we must develop our organization with a specific focus in mind. Much research must be done and many tasks must be accomplished prior to such an event.

Since our inception as a LUG in 2009, we have enjoyed a rather laze-faire existence. While this has been fun, good, and quite easy, we've never accomplished some of the ideas that have been presented over the last 3 years.

It would seem that now is the time to tighten our belts and establish a purpose whereby we gain a clear vision of the goals we desire to achieve as a LUG. Therefore, before we can define goals, we must know what the purpose, the focus, and/or the mission of the Guilford County Linux Users Group should be. That is what we hope to begin to define in this next meeting.

As always, those who make the effort to attend will get to make the decisions. Hopefully, you have an interest in the direction of the group. If so, please plan to attend this meeting and offer your input.

From what we compile in this meeting, we hope to arrive at a concise and clear statement to define where we are headed and why.

Bring your thoughts written so you can offer them for discussion. None of us have the key to what this statement should be, but rather it should be a collective bit of knowledge and wisdom provided by those who care to attend the meeting.
