HBase London - Feb meetup @Cloudera

Details

Matteo Bertozzi: HBase status: 0.94, 0.96, 0.98, and future releases:

This talk will give an overview of HBase as it is now and what’s coming in the future. You will learn about the release process and the differences between the versions, including an overview of the new MTTR improvements and new features such as namespaces, snapshots, and cell tags.

Matteo is a Software Engineer at Cloudera and Apache HBase committer.

Lars George: HBase with Impala - NoSQL meets SQL:

Hadoop stores data in its raw form with full fidelity for further processing with MapReduce; whilst fast random access--similar to a relational database--is typically the domain of HBase within the ecosystem. With Impala there is now a low-latency SQL front-end available which can read both raw data from HDFS or data stored in HBase. This talk addresses use-cases of where Impala over HBase makes sense, what technical consequences this approach has, and when it is better to use the raw data in HDFS instead.

Lars is Cloudera’s Chief Architect in EMEA and Apache HBase committer.

Cloudera is very kindly hosting this Meetup and sponsoring beer & pizza.
