Accessibility & Web Technologies
Details
George Zamfir is a web technology & IT accessibility consultant in order to assist and bring organizations into a position where they are correctly using the technologies available in order to provide accessibility of information to everybody.
Presentation Description:
Making an interface, website or web application accessible shouldn't be an after-thought and accessibility is not just for people with disabilities. I don't just believe in creating websites and applications that are easy for everyone to use; I think we should take it one step forward, we should empower users through new technologies and HTML5 is primed to do just that.
Where HTML5 is special is in the improved semantic elements. Semantic information - name, states, roles and properties - carried by HTML elements and attributes is crucial to accessible content on the web. People who rely on assistive technology (i.e. screen readers, voice command, etc.) depend on semantically meaningful mark-up to interact with our web products.
In my work as an accessibility consultant I strive to reach this balance but also to help my peers see the value in a more inclusive product - this is my passion.
