Testing, Testing and Accessibility

Mario will focus on several of Adobe's "Edge" suite tools and share some tips and techniques on how he tests for desktop, tablets and handheld devices.

Mario has been a web designer and front end developer for about ten years with four years of experience freelance and about six company based ranging from small sites to large scale enterprise. He’s pretty excited about hybrid mobile development in particular PhoneGap and device agnostic development. Currently, the Principal at Mario Noble Design and the lead organizer for Southern California Web Designers and Developers.

Let's make the web more accessible to everyone. Joseph O'Connor will discuss the Web Accessibility Initiative which seeks to make Web content and Web applications more accessible to people with disabilities. He will talk about the CITIES project; the goal of which is to produce accessible WordPress themes. And he will have hints and tips for all of us on how we can build accessible features into our projects.

Joseph Karr O’Connor is an accessibility consultant who lives in Santa Monica, California. When Section 508 came into effect in 1999 he began leading teams producing accessible web environments, first at Pasadena City College and then at California State University, Northridge.

Joe has been using WordPress in support of non-profits, research, and university news since 2005. Now leading Cities, a world-wide effort to build free accessible WordPress themes, Joe also contributes to Make WordPress Accessible and asks you to get involved.

A public speaker for many years Joe recently presented “Cities: Making Accessible WordPress Themes” in April 2013, at Reno-Tahoe WordCamp and about WAI-ARIA at SoCal UX Camp 2013 Cal State Fullerton in June. He also spoke about WordPress accessibility at WordCamp Montreal, June 2013.

You have a great topic: Adobe's "Edge" suite tools and share some tips and techniques, so whatever you post I am sure would be appreciated by anyone who is missing this presentation.

It looks like I have a conflict and will not be able to join your meeting. Will Mario be posting a slide set of his talk?

    August 12, 2013

    • Mario N.

Hi Emil, sorry you can't make it. I'll try to post my deck. However, it'll be more of a hands on demo with a device screen share so I'm not sure if the slides will cover most of the presentation. I generally try not to make my presentations slideshow heavy so as to not put audiences into "Powerpoint" coma.

Adding accessibility means someone with a disability can get and keep a job, buy your product, pay taxes.
