August Meeting

  • August 20, 2014 · 6:00 PM
  • Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center

Looking forward to seeing everyone Wednesday.  There's one more change to the program.  Keys was also called away this week.  In his place, Andy Pernseiner, Lead for Field Enablement at MapR will give a presentation on Drill.

For MapR, Andy has been spearheading efforts on demo creation, use case materials, ecosystem component testing and migration, and field liason to Product Management and Engineering.  Prior to MapR, Andy was with Isilon systems for eight years, which included time as the Principle SE lead for Eastern North America.

This returns us to our original topic for the evening.  The MapR filesystem will be discussed by Srivas when he returns later in the year.  While Andy will focus on Drill, given his role in the company I'm sure he'll welcome any questions about MapR and the Hadoop ecosystem.k

MapR will provide refreshments for the evening.

From the MapR website:

MapR is a complete distribution for Apache Hadoop that packages more than a dozen projects from the Hadoop ecosystem to provide a broad set of Big Data capabilities for the user. Projects such as Apache HBase, Hive, Pig, Mahout, Flume, Avro, Sqoop, Oozie and Whirr are included along with non-Apache projects such as Cascading and Impala.

Thanks for turning out everyone, it was good meeting you. Feel free to reach out to me directly if you have any questions about Apache Drill (If I don't know the answer, I know the guy or gal who does...)

Here's a link to the deck I used for the presentation, slide 45 contains some links that can help you get started using drill on your own.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
