Hackaday World Create Day San Jose

Details

Join us to create tech solutions for social change at #WorldCreateDay, Hackaday’s worldwide brainstorming session for the2016 Hackaday Prize design concept challenge (https://hackaday.io/prize/details#one)! We’ll form teams and submit ideas for projects that leverage our hardware, coding, scientific, design and mechanical skills.

The Goal:

By the end of this meetup, each team will submit a project to the Hackaday Prize design challenge. See challenge details here: https://hackaday.io/prize/details#one

Need some inspiration for your project? Here are some ideas:

• Citizen Science - Build a graphene supercapacitor, study the effects of a behavior, build an open source instrumentation device.

• Automation - Build a device that makes breakfast or buys laundry detergent when you’re running low. Automatically track stuff, automate any process, build a Me-robot to do your every whim

• Assistive technologies - Build a project that helps others move better, see better, or live better. Whether that means exoskeletons, a better wheelchair, a braille display, or educational software, we want to see it.

Or any other idea you have to hack for social change! Leverage your talent and find solutions to address technology issues facing humanity today.

We have limited space and cannot exceed occupancy limits If you have signed-up and you find can't make it then please cancel so someone on the wait-list gets a chance to attend. Please be considerate for others by checking your schedule and see if you can get to the location before signing up.

Agenda:

11:30am - Doors open

12:00pm - Introductions, meet n greet, and review of the 2015 Hackaday Prize entries.

12:30pm - Team formations. Find people who believe in the same ideas and bring the skills needed to round out your team.

1:00pm - Brainstorm and create your project proposals, add them to Hackaday.io and submit to the 2016 Hackaday Prize!

2:00pm - Lightning pitches from each group, followed by discussion

3:00pm - Networking time and wrap-up

4:00pm - If we're amazingly still on schedule then in true hacker spirit we're recommending a trip to HSC Electronic Supply (aka Halted electronics), the premier electronics surplus store in the bay area. Hurry they close at 5.

We're also planning hacker related trivia quizzes between sessions. Be prepared to show your hacker prowess.

What to Bring (Not essential but could be useful):

• Your laptop and charger (Slide rules are cool and they designed the Saturn 5, but you cannot login from hackaday.io using one) wi-fi will be available

• Pen and paper

• Any cool project that you are working on that you'd like to show

• Thinking caps (Should anyone actually wear a thinking cap, that's totally awesome)

Directions/Parking:

Microchip Technology is letting us use their training center for the meet-up. It's in the Microchip building just off the 237 highway at Zanker, and not far from 880.

Nearest light rail station is Tasman and is about a 1 mile walk. Google maps can be trusted to get you to the correct building.

The training center is located to the left as you enter the lobby. Please sign-in as you enter the room.

Note: There is plenty of free parking.
