Chaplin.js, Lightning Talks, & More! - Sac JavaScript & Web Apps Group

Please register here:

The Sacramento JavaScript & Web Applications Group provides a platform for sharing information about the world of web applications as a whole, with a particular emphasis on client/server JavaScript. We welcome you to join us for our next meeting:

I. Brief introductions (e.g., 1-2 minutes each)
II. Presentation(s) (1-2 presentations, approx 15-30mins ea)
III. Lightning Talks / Q&A
IV. After hours

Presentation(s): Chaplin.js: The hardcore Single-page Application Framework Chaplin.js is a flexible, modular Single-page Application (SPA) framework created specifically for building complex business and enterprise applications. Chaplin.js is one of the Black Duck 2012 Open Source Rookie of the Year award winners.

This presentation will include a brief introduction to the structure and philosophy around Chaplin.js as well as a walk-through creating a simple SPA. We will highlight the primary advantages over and some of the clear disadvantages compared to Angular.js and Ember.js.

One of the three core maintainers for Chaplin.js will be present to answer any deeper technical questions and receive any feedback for improving the framework.

Lightning Talks / Q&A
Show off some of the cool projects we've been working on and talk about everything happening in the JavaScript and Web App community. These are 5 minute (or so) demos/explanations of something that’s useful to you in your work as a front-end engineer. This can be software, or patterns, or tools, or frameworks. Just pulling up the website for a tool is a totally easy way to have something to show without any slides to prep! (you are encouraged to think about what you’ll say though). Likewise this period of time can also be used for general roundtable-style questions and answer sessions.

After hours
Informal branching out into small group discussions, ask/answer questions, and connect with new and old friends.
