Hackers/Founders is pleased to welcome Norberto Ortigoza (https://github.com/hiphoox) for a 2-day bootcamp on Elixir, Erlang, Phoenix and OTP so you can go on to create awesomeness.
Norberto is a self-described "programming languages nerd" and an experienced lecturer and instructor.
Description:
- Elixir is a new programming language for the Erlang Virtual Machine. It has a huge momentum and is getting attention because it brings a familiar syntax and good tooling to the Erlang ecosystem.
All of this without scarifying the benefits of Erlang such as fault tolerance, massive concurrency, scalability and performance.
- In this class we are going to learn about the architecture of the Erlang virtual machine (BEAM). Why it is important for the kind of systems we are building now and for the future.
We also see Elixir, its philosophy, design and main concepts; functional programming and its relation with object oriented programming, pattern matching, processes, protocols and behaviours.
- Finally, we learn about Phoenix and OTP. Phoenix is a framework similar to Rails or Node.js, in the sense that it brings productivity and easy of use to web development, but it takes advantage of the Erlang infrastructure.
OTP is the set of good practices and principles to design fault tolerant, highly available systems in Erlang and Elixir.
Bring your laptop and make a quantum leap forward in your understanding of these languages.
