Hacks/Hackers is launching in Amsterdam!

This will be the first gathering of Hacks/Hackers in Amsterdam bringing together journalists and technologists to come together to share experiences, collaborate on projects and provide a space where technology can provide solutions to the problems we face in journalism.

The first event will be an opportunity for us to discuss the future of Hacks/Hackers in Amsterdam and what you would like to see happen.

Hacks/Hackers is part of an international organization with chapters worldwide. The goal of the organization is to create a network of journalists and technologists ¨who rethink the future of news and information.¨

We'll start off with a brief introduction by the organizers and then jump right into a couple of talks. We have an exciting line-up of talks - Sybren Kooistra will talk to us about a new initiative he is leading at de Volkstrant called Yournalism. Jurre van Bergen will tell us about ToR and give us some exciting updates. Els Engel, a visual journalist who teaches datavisualization and infographics will speak about her latest projects. Susan E. McGregor, Assistant Professor & Assistant Director, Tow Center for Digital Journalism at Columbia University´s Graduate School of Journalism will give us an academic perspective on digital journalism.

After the talks we'll open up the floor for questions/comments and jump right into drinks/networking. If anyone has something exciting to share we'll break from drinks/networking and give you the floor.

If you are interested in doing a talk about a specific project email us [masked].

de Volkstrant is looking for programmers to join the newsroom and work on creative ways to use technology to improve the work of journalists and the experience for readers.

Follow us @hackshackersAMS.

The event will run from 7pm-10pm. The address is Spuistraat 239-D, 1012 VP Amsterdam.

Silk has been generous enough to offer us their space for the event. Refreshments will be provided by Free Press Unlimited and Internet Protection Lab.

Everyone who's coming - do you have specific projects / ideas you'd like the attendees to think about so they can come with additional ideas? And please - invite your friends!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
