Are you a data journalist, journalist who wants to learn how to use data in your stories, techie who is good with data sets and scraping or visualizing data or anyone who just wants to learn about the process?
Join us, June 22nd for a great evening of all things data journalism. We have gathered some experienced data journalists to talk about data journalism and give us a tutorial on how to gather, interpret and use data in our stories.
We'll start the evening with an introduction to data journalism followed by a showcase of a cool data journalism project.
Data Pitch
Do you have an interesting data journalism project you want to work on, but you need some help? Are you looking for technologists to help you scrape, or people can help you visualize your data? Data pitch allows you to briefly (in 3 minutes or less) introduce your idea and tell the community what you need that evening. We hope with the diverse group of attendees people will be able to make matches or help people find resources to complete their projects. So bring your ideas!
We have a talented lineup of data journalists and visualizers for the evening.
Lab111 has graciously offered their space for this meetup.

I didn't get to catch up with the person that wants to investigate data gathering and its effects by social media, using 'blank profiles'. I'd be interested to find out more and would love for you to share a link to your thought and ideas. Are you working on a prototype yet?

so a bit more about ipython notebooks. I have been clicking a bit around the examples looking for a good example and I like this book (don't let yourself be overwhelmed by the topic, it is just an example):
https://camdavidsonpilon.github.io/Probabilistic-Programming-and-Bayesian-Methods-for-Hackers/
The book is actually completely written in ipython notebook and the source is available on github:
So what you can do is:
* install ipython notebook on your laptop
* do a github checkout of this project
* run the notebooks and start playing with the data!
If this is the way to go in open data journalism? I don't know. But some people use it in science and it is making a lot of lives more pleasant.

Hi! awesome meetup, looking forward to it.
Impolite question, will there be food? By no means I expect this, but sometimes I cram some fast food inside and rush to a meetup to find a pizza there! If not I cram in some fast food somewhere :)

I'm surpris ed by the level of growth I've seen since becoming an organizer, it's given me more confidence in my abilities.
