Welcome everyone to the 20th (!!!!!!) chapter of #hhber! Hosted by ZEIT ONLINE we are excited to have two guys full with journalistic innovation DNA on stage.
Not long ago Daniel Drepper (co-founder and senior reporter at CORRECT!V (https://www.correctiv.org/wer-wir-sind-english)) and Martin Kotynek (deputy editor-in-chief at ZEIT ONLINE) spend a year in the US to work on innovation in journalism. They will share their learnings and experiences during a conversation.
Some facts about our interesting guests:
Until May 2014, Daniel Drepper was a Fellow at the Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism and a Scholar at the Brown Institute for Media Innovation at Columbia University in New York City. Between 2010 and 2013, Daniel worked in the research department of Funke-Mediengruppe where he won the “Wächterpreis” award and was named journalist of the year in the Newcomer category. Daniel has worked as a freelance journalist for Deutschlandfunk, WDR, ZEIT ONLINE and FAZ, among others. He also launched the research platform fussballdoping.de.
Martin Kotynek is a well known face at Hacks&Hackers Berlin. Since July 2014 he works as deputy editor-in-chief at ZEIT ONLINE, focusing on the strategic development of the site. Before he spent 10 months as a John S. Knight Journalism Fellow at Stanford University in Silicon Valley. As a fellow, he researched digital media strategies and learned about innovation, entrepreneurship and leadership in media. Previously, Martin was an investigative editor at DIE ZEIT. For the parliamentary elections in 2013, he developed “ZEITmagazin Faktomat”, a digital experiment in collaborative fact-checking. Before joining DIE ZEIT, Kotynek served as a politics editor at the major daily paper “Süddeutsche Zeitung”.
