Hacks/Hackers #31 - Panama Papers, College Sports Funding, Conference Recap

Details
PLEASE NOTE: There was a change of venue for this month. It is at ZeitOnline.
Let's celebrate the beginning of summer with a revival of Hacks/Hackers!
This time we will have a recap of recent journalism conferences and two exciting speakers.
Matthew Caruana Galizia is a web applications developer at ICIJ and will talk about the technology behind the Panama Papers.
Sandhya Kambhampati is a Knight-Mozilla OpenNews fellow with CORRECTIV. She just won the Education Writer's Association First Place Prize for Data Journalism for a story about how college students are funding their athletics departments. Sandhya will chat about how they cleaned and analyzed the data and found how public colleges pumped more than $10.3 billion in student fees into their sports programs.
Conference Recap – The last two months included a couple of conferences related to journalism, media and technology. We will get quick summaries from people who attended NICAR, the International Journalism Festival in Perugia and Re:publica. And we will find out if someone in the room attended all of them!
After the talks we will head to Hebbel am Ufer for drink and a chat.
As always, if you can help us find speakers, hosts or have a burning desire for a specific topic to be covered please contact us.
Kind regards,
Hacks/Hackers organising team.
