Hacks/Hackers #32 – Crowdsourcing, Personalisation & DDJ projects from Argentina

Details
Let's meet in July and talk about journalism and technology! We have the following amazing speakers for you!
Mimi Onuoha (@thistimeitsmimi (https://twitter.com/thistimeitsmimi)) will talk about leveraging collective action and emerging data practices in the pursuit of better understanding missing datasets. Mimi is currently a fellow at the Data & Society Research Institute in New York City, where she is programmatically and interpersonally investigating missing datasets and strategies for intervention and response. She is also a former fellow at the Tow Center for Digital Journalism, where she co-authored a Guide to Crowdsourcing Journalism.
When journalists have to compete with more and more content providers — journalistic and non-journalistic — how can we get people to care about the stories we tell? By relating the content of our stories to each individual user. During this talk Lam Thuy Vo (@lamthuyvo (https://twitter.com/lamthuyvo)) will walk you through a few ways in which you can start thinking about making your content speak more to your audiences.
Florencia Coelho (@fcoel (https://twitter.com/fcoel)) from the data journalism team at La Nación Data in Buenos Aires will give us a run through of some highlights from the work of the @LNData team, like how they've used data to challenge a FOIA-free culture, and combined open data and freedom of information requests to gather their community around data journalism. For a sneak peek, check out their projects page (http://blogs.lanacion.com.ar/projects/).
If there's some time left, Correctiv's Stefan Wehrmeyer will give an insight into the „Euros for Doctors“ database (https://correctiv.org/recherchen/euros-fuer-aerzte/datenbank/) that launched last week.
See you there!
