How to Scrape the Web for Good Info

Hey all Hacks and Hackers.

It’s time for our first Meetup in 2014!

How do you extract data from the web? And how do you use it for a great project? Join us for a web scraping themed night in the creative surroundings of Founders House in Copenhagen to find out.

Hacker Kræn Hansen will tell us the basics of scraping the web for valuable information that you can’t find anywhere else. He will also talk about how to go from an idea to a successful scraping project.

With a handful of real life examples, former national police researcher Lars Underbjerg will join us. After working with trawling the web for child pornography, he has left the force to work on his own projects – all evolving around how to automate getting valuable information off the internet.

Afterwards, it’s time to get creative and learn some savvy tricks from each other and how you can use them in real life.

Both Kræn and Lars will stay through the night to help us out with cool tricks and troubleshooting.

Here’s the plan:

19.00: Welcome

19.15: Kræn Hansen takes us through the basics of Web Scraping

19.45: Lars Underbjerg brings us real life examples

20.15: Break

20:30: Get hacking

22.00: See you next time

How to attend:

RSVP on this event before January 27th 2014.

Note that this event has a limit of 35 people attending. The event is free and it is first come, first serve. There will, however, be a no-show fee of 120 DKK.

We are looking forward to seeing you there!

All the best,

Hi Martin, sounds interesting. Only one thing to do - and that is to wait for enough people to RVSP "no" so that you can get a spot. Otherwise, we'll see you next time:)
