BTW, are there any Python groups? I noticed most things were Ruby-based. Thanks.

I can contribute. I'm best at engine code but wouldn't mind doing some work on a cross-platform, open source gui. Might be fun to do something in html 5.

What type of engines do you work on? Game engines?

Did not have enough time to discuss on this, but will be doing so in the future.

I enjoyed it. My first and I was very late. so I missed any mingling time. Really enjoyed the knowledge level of the speakers. BRAVO

So I was poking around the Hawaii Government contracts site (http://hawaii.gov/spo2/) and saw an interesting thing or two, such as a contract with funds back to 2011 that have been contracted but not expended. I was wondering what other bits of data may be in there. Anyone interested in skimming this data, databasing it, and then mining a bit?

Would you all be interested in looking at enhancements to Honolulu Answers or any other Code for America project? You wouldn't have to start from scratch and there are quite a bit of projects to choose from. https://github.com/honolulu

Good question. We can talk to the City folks in DUF and see what they currently have and how we might apply a web crawler.

Haha, amusing qualification (inaccessible in the topological as opposed to security sense) there, Michael! ;) I very much like the urban forestry idea in general. Have no idea how I would run with it though. FWIW I plan to be at the meeting. So maybe some of us can talk about joining forces, divvying up work, etc. there.

We should develop an open source program with open data from hawaii. Or at least locally focused.

For what it's worth, i'd be more interested in collaberating with a closed group to produce something of sufficient value to it's developers (as contrasted with to the universe in general) to make a major investment in time logical ... grin ... meaning something that produces wealth instead of something to do for fun. [My problem is I'm committed to developing "pure" Java applications, so my "group" may be as small as one.] glb

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
