Hacks/Hackers Hong Kong and Press Start Hong Kong (http://www.pressstart.com.hk/) will be co-hosting the HHHK August meetup, where we'll be talking about games in news and the growing trend of learning through play.

Gamification is the latest buzzword in digital, and the news industry is certainly jumping on the bandwagon. Cedric Sam (https://www.facebook.com/cedricsam) will be sharing how technology, storytelling and art work together to create playful interactions that make news and information accessible to readers, and examples from a few leading players in digital journalism.

On the flip side, abstract concepts are finding their way into the world of games as well. The recent renaissance of board games has seen a raft of unique strategy games, designed around specific themes and interesting game mechanics, hit the market, and Press Start's Wesley Mui (https://www.facebook.com/wesmui) will be highlighting a few games that are more than just about winning.

Our third speaker, Mark Christian Calugay (https://www.facebook.com/mackcalugay) will be speaking about FRED, a gamified healthcare application that he conceptualized and spearheaded. Mark will be exploring how games can address social issues and educate players on important messages.

The event will be held at 7 pm Wednesday August 17th at Press Start's event space in Central (3/F, 18 Gilman's Bazaar, Central). We'll be capping attendance at 25 so please RSVP at the Meetup.com (http://meetup.com/) event page to reserve your spot. See you then!

Press Start Hong Kong is a first-of-its-kind games and events venture. Its goals are threefold: 1) to build a community of game lovers in Hong Kong; 2) to design and curate games-centric experiences; and 3) to educate and inspire through games.

Hacks/Hackers is an international grassroots journalism organization to create a network of journalists (“hacks”) and technologists (“hackers”) who rethink the future of news and information.
