MySQL bootcamp

Details
Maybe you're an Excel ninja who is ready for bigger, badder analysis tools. Or perhaps your next cool project requires a deep dive into a huge data set. Or maybe you've just taken a shine to Web development. Hacks/Hackers Miami is here to get you started digging into — and digging the good stuff out of — databases with MySQL.
Join HHMIA for a hands-on MySQL bootcamp with Miami Herald alum turned developer and Hacks/Hackers Miami member, Stephanie Rosenblatt, (https://twitter.com/steph_rose) on Saturday, April 13 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Room 2055 of the Communications International Building at the University of Miami School of Communication (http://com.miami.edu/), 5100 Brunson Drive in Coral Gables.
Steph Rosenblatt is going to help us learn about how to use data beyond Excel. The course will center around taking a large dataset and learning how to derive information from that data. We will be learning how Excel and a MySQL table compare — starting by learning a bit about how to work with data Excel, and then moving into MySQL. You'll learn how to query, write basic formulas, and find answers.
Bring your laptop. This is going to get nerdy!
Stephanie Rosenblatt is a full-stack developer with a background and a love of journalism. She worked at the Miami Herald developing online applications for investigative team reporting and major events like the 2008 election. She was a part of theJournalism Now Podcast (http://cmir.jou.ufl.edu/newsroom/podcast/) and has taught courses at FSNE, WordCamp and BarCamp conferences. She now serves as Technical Producer and Senior Developer for an ad technology startup out of Deerfield Beach, FL.
Special thanks to Steph and to our members at UM for hosting!
If you're already a MySQL master, we need some facilitators to help during the workshop. Please let us know if you can help.
Don't forget to take the survey (http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/8KLR2MB), so we can tailor the program to the needs of our group! (Although these questions may seem intimidating, this are only to gauge the knowledge of people in the class. This class is for anyone with an interest in data and the web, but will definitely be geared toward beginners.)
