Barcamp News Innovation Philadelphia is an annual, low-cost, one-day national unconference on journalism innovation and the future of news as explored by practitioners and friends. Attendees come from around the country with both legacy and new media backgrounds to share best practices, actionable steps and clear take aways on editorial and business innovation in journalism, news and information.
BCNI is organized by Technically Media, a niche media organization that publishes two local news sites: Technical.ly, which focuses on local tech communities, and Generocity.org, which focuses on the social impact community of Philadelphia. The first BCNI was held at Temple University on April 25, 2009.
A Barcamp is an event format that gives its attendees the power to create the day’s schedule -- otherwise known as an unconference. Though there are Barcamps on many subjects and in many places, this is the largest unconference dedicated to news, journalism and media making.
