Hello everyone and welcome to our new members!

Hope your 2012 is off to a good start. Dana Bauer, Dave Merrell, and I have been planning events for Hacks/Hackers Philadelphia and wanted to update you on our progress.

This month we will not have a meetup, but instead will focus on planning. I will be reaching out to people who expressed an interest in helping with blogging, photos, hackathons, and other tasks. If you have ideas for future meetups, please email me. We have several potential topics planned out, but we'd love more feedback.

We'll be in touch soon with details about our February meetup.

This year, we'd like to do more partner events like the joint-mixer with several journalism groups in December. If you have suggestions or contacts at possible partner orgs, please let us know about that as well.

In the meantime, hope to see you at some upcoming events:

  • Random Hacks of Kindness Follow-up: Thursday, January 19 from 6-7p.m. at Drexel University, University Crossings #151, 3175 JFK Blvd. Hacks/Hackers Philadelphia participated in the hackathon and two of our teams are continuing work on their hack projects. Several of us will be at this meetup. Even if you didn't attend the hackathon, feel free to attend and hear about the projects and future hackathon planning.
  • Online News Association Meetup at NBC 10: Wednesday, January 25 from 6-8p.m. at NBC 10, 10 Monument Road, Bala Cynwyd. Chat with journalists and learn from the web staff at NBC 10.
  • Philly Python Users Group Project Night: Thursday, January 26 from 6-10pm at Devnuts, 908 N. 3rd St. Are you new to python or a pro who wants to be a mentor? This is PhillyPUG's first project night, a space and time to work on a python project in a supportive environment.
  • PyStar Philly: Intro to Python for Women and Their Friends: Friday, February 3 and Saturday, February 4 at Devnuts. Want to learn what this python stuff is all about? This intro workshop is a great way to get a handle on the basics and start coding.

You can follow us on Twitter for other updates and general journalism and tech news. Thanks and look forward to seeing you at the next meetup.
