Pub Night

Come out for a drink up with others who are interested in, are working with, and/or are affected by the ways new media is changing the creation, dissemination, presentation and business of journalism.

You might learn something new, have a disagreement, find what you know is a big help to someone, get an idea, make a new friend, have a nice time, or have one too many. If the evening's a success, we'll do it again, monthly.

All are welcome: hacks and hackers, data journalists and scientists, open data and gov aficionados, students and academics, beginners and pros, venture capitalists and paupers, teetotallers and barflies. Bring your colleagues, and feel free to cross post this invitation with any group that could be relevant to the conversation.

It was great to see so many of you make it out last night despite the rain. And if I correctly read the room, most of you had a lively, interesting time. I definitely did, and many of you said as much on your way out. So, let's do it again shall we. Same time (the second Tuesday of November), and the same place (for which we have Julia and Bianca's son William Wolfe-Wylie to thank, who suggested it in the first place). Pleased to meet you, and see you at the next one.

Hi Geronimo. You are welcome to join us tonight. Keep in mind this is a group interested in new possibilities for journalism using digital media. If you're not very keen on the journalism part and are focused solely on making connections in the Toronto tech scene, I recommend trying some of the more tech specific meet-ups like The Toronto Ruby Brigade or Toronto JavaScript. There's pretty much a group in town for every popular technology going, and some of the unpopular ones too. :)

I had a great time, I learn a lot of interesting projects and ideas from you guys, and of course about data management, open data, and mapping. Love the journalism discussions and how you are getting and manage data. To me everyone is hacker, any person looking ways and new possibilities to do anything, is a hacker :-)

Great meet up tonight. Following discussion, I just created the Toronto OpenRefine Meetup group and schedule the first event in one month from now.

Hi everyone. I'm excited to see you all tomorrow night and talk hacks/hackers. I've booked the upstairs at Betty's for us, which reversely, or perhaps perversely, is called "The Basement". Until then...

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
