Hacks/Hackers Toronto: Catherine Gicheru and Code for Kenya

Details
I'm very excited to announce that Catherine Gicheru will be our speaker for the evening. Catherine is an award-winning journalist: she is a Nieman Fellow, was awarded the 1992 IWMF Courage in Journalism Award and is currently an ICFJ Knight International Journalism Fellow with the Code for Kenya (https://codeforafrica.org) team. Catherine supervises teams of data journalists and technologists based at news partner organizations and CitizenLabs in Kenya, working to connect “techies” in east Africa with journalists who have stories to tell.
This event will be hosted in partnership with the Canadian Association of Journalists and Aga Khan Foundation Canada.
Doors open at 7 p.m. and the talk will begin at 8.
If this sounds fascinating, come out and meet up with others who are interested in, are working with, and/or are affected by the ways new media is changing the creation, dissemination, presentation and business of journalism. All are welcome: hacks and hackers, data journalists and scientists, open data and gov aficionados, students and academics, beginners and pros, venture capitalists and paupers, teetotallers and barflies. Bring your colleagues, and feel free to cross post this invitation with any group that could be relevant to the conversation. See you there,
The Hacks/Hackers Toronto team
