Workshop: Information Security

Hacks/Hackers Vienna together with Kuratorium für Journalistenausbildung are organizing a hands-on workshop on Information Security with Stéphane Koch.

In order to preserve access to sensitive information and to protect their sources, journalists must be aware of basic online security issues and easy-to-use tools to protect their work. This expertise is not just necessary for reporters safety, but also for ensuring that sources feel their identities will be protected if necessary - a cornerstone of a robust press.

The objective of this workshop is to help journalists understand and familiarize themselves with the risks posed by new information technologies and means of communication. More than ever, journalists have become major targets for the information and contacts in their possession.

Target group:
Journalists with no experience or medium experience in information security. Basic computer skills needed - no advanced skills required. Laptop and English skills required. The workshop is held in English.

Goal:
This hands-on cybersecurity training workshop will give journalists the tools they need for cyber safety, as well as practices and tools to keep their data and information secure.

The workshop is organized in cooperation with Kuratorium für Journalistenausbildung (KfJ).

Referent/in Stéphane Koch
is specialized in the field of Information Security, the use of Social Media and he is Vice-president of High-Tech Bridge, a company specialized in Ethical Hacking. In collaboration with Reporters Without Borders, he has given information security workshops for journalists at a lot of international schools including Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, the National Press Club, and for journalists in the Middle East and South East Asia.
