Hacks/Hackers: Upgrading local elections

We're planning to start the ball rolling on some collaborative projects for upgrading local elections coverage in Durham, Chapel Hill and Raleigh.

We'll focus on three areas that make a big impact on how we inform the public about their elected leaders:

social media public data and records audio and video To move forward, we'll need input from both hacks and hackers. We want to know how journalists are currently using these tools -- namely what works and what doesn't. We also want to know what we could be doing with these tools -- novel approaches that haven't been invented yet.

At the end of the night, we're hoping to end up with a few rough ideas for projects we can team up to tackle over the next few months.

So invite all your developer and journalist friends interested in local government accountability to the West End Wine Bar in Durham Thursday, May 17 at 7 p.m. We'll meet in the upstairs room for some good food (pizzas and appetizers will be provided), good drinks and great ideas.
