A workshop focusing on fundamental data journalism and web development skills using the Supreme Chi-Town Coding Crew's Cook County Jail API—a Django-based web API that provides data about inmates in Cook County Jail by scraping for the Sheriff's Inmate Locator.
All skill levels welcome
Mini-projects include:
• drawing the jail's floorplan
• analysing data
• improving the scraper
• project architecture & documentation
• front end data viz and user experience
• mining the data for leads.

There was an informative segment on Chicago Tonight with Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, Circuit Court of Cook County Chief Judge Timothy Evans, and Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart. Gets at some of the political infighting between these 3 independent gov entities
