Chicas Poderosas: Meetup con Mariana Santos, diseñadora/animadora The Guardian

Hacks/Hackers Chile, Fundación PoderoMedia (http://www.poderomedia.org) y Girls in Tech Chile (https://www.meetup.com/GiTChile/) te invitan a la charla de Narración Visual de Mariana Santos (http://www.marysaints.com), Knight International Journalism Fellow (http://www.icfj.org/about/profiles/mariana-santos) y diseñadora/animadora del diario The Guardian (http://www.guardian.co.uk/profile/mariana-santos), quien además estará presentando su proyecto Chicas Poderosas (http://www.chicaspoderosas.org).

Los medios y el mundo de la tecnología necesitan aumentar el número de mujeres que trabajan en el sector, ampliamente dominado por el género masculino. Mariana Santos lo sabe bien. Y por lo mismo durante este año estará trabajando como becaria Knight International Journalism Fellow del Centro Internacional para Periodistas (http://www.icfj.org), para inspirar y aumentar el número de mujeres dedicadas a la tecnología en los medios de comunicación.

De origen portugués, Mariana se desempeña como animadora y diseñadora de interactivos para el periódico The Guardian en Londres. Allí forma parte de un equipo de desarrolladores, editores y diseñadores encargado de delinear, crear y desarrollar la experiencia del usuario en el consumo de historias interactivas. El principal objetivo de su trabajo es diseñar una experiencia estimulante e intuitiva para el usuario, pues ésa es la forma más eficaz de comunicar grandes cantidades de datos. Por este trabajo ella y su equipo han obtenido numerosos premios a la innovación en el periodismo digital.

En este meetup Mariana hablará de "Narración Visual: el poder de las imágenes para contar historias a través de animaciones, infografías, ilustraciones y videos". Mediante varios ejemplos de su trabajo para The Guardian, mostrará nuevas formas de contar historias y cómo convertir noticias producidas de manera tradicional en animaciones, infografías, ilustraciones y videos que despiertan emociones y retan la curiosidad de la audiencia.

A su vez conversará con las y los asistentes sobre "Chicas Poderosas" (http://www.chicaspoderosas.org), su proyecto para conectar mujeres periodistas, diseñadoras, programadoras y artistas de la región; buscando promover la inclusión de más "Chicas Poderosas" en los medios de Latinoamérica.

Esta charla se llevará a cabo en español el viernes 31 de mayo a las 19:00 horas en el Auditorio Gonzalo Vial de la Casa Central de la Universidad Finis Terrae.

Hacks / Hackers Chile, PoderoMedia Foundation (http://www.poderomedia.org) and Girls in Tech Chile invite you to a "Visual Narrative" talk by Mariana Santos, Knight International Journalism Fellow, interactive designer and motion graphics animator of The Guardian, who will be presenting her new project "Chicas Poderosas".

Media and the world of technology need to increase the number of women working in the sector, largely dominated by the male gender. Mariana Santos should know. Therefore this year will be working as an iKnight International Journalism Fellow at the International Center for Journalists, to inspire women and increase the number of women working in technology for news and media.

Mariana works as animator and interactive designer for The Guardian newspaper in London. There she is part of a team of developers, journalist and designers commissioned to outline, create and develop the user experience in the use of interactive stories. The main objective of the paper is to design an exhilarating and intuitive experience for the user, because that is the most effective way to communicate large amounts of data. For this work she and her team have won numerous awards for innovation in digital journalism.

In this meetup Mariana will speak on "Visual Storytelling: the power of images to tell stories through animation, infographics, illustrations and videos" Through several examples of her work for The Guardian, she will show new ways to tell news stories and how to convert them into animations, infographics, illustrations and videos that arouse emotions and challenge the audience's curiosity.

Mariana will also talk to the attendees about "Chicas Poderosas", her project to connect women journalists, designers, programmers and artists in the region, seeking to promote the inclusion of more "Chicas Poderosas" in Latin American media.

This talk will be held in Spanish but Mariana also speaks english and portuguese (for those who want to ask questions in other language).
