[OPEN TO ALL. INVITE OTHERS.]

Video has become the defacto mode of communication for those born after 1990. Cisco predicts that, by the year 2020, 80% of bandwidth consumption will only be to watch videos. That means that no business — let alone media and other storytellers — can ignore the reality of video transforming communication. So what strategies, tactics or tech can journalists and media in general adopt strategies to become more online video savvy?

This weekend, Hacks/Hackers (https://www.facebook.com/groups/hackshackersdelhi/)launches in Mumbai, bringing together industry leaders for a free-wheeling discussion on this theme. Each will speak to how their publication/product approaches this challenge and what seems to be working/failing.

As always, this is an informal unconference for community-driven learning and skill-sharing. We will have a series of 10-minute talks or presentations followed by five-minute Q&As. So far, we have:

• Culture Machine (http://www.culturemachines.com), one of India’s largest multi-channel networks for entertainment. Over a million YouTubers have subscribed to their channels and several brands now lean on them for branded content. Sameer Pitalwala (https://in.linkedin.com/in/sameerpitalwalla), CEO and co-founder, will tell us about what it takes to build an entertainment platform to scale.

• The Viral Factory (http://www.tvfplay.com)• , one of India’s best known video content creators. Arunabh Kumar (https://twitter.com/TheQtiyapaGuy), founder and CEO, will share an insight into how they managed to get the right content elements for their long-format shows, traditionally an anathema for online video.

• The Quint (http://www.thequint.com/) is India’s leading digital and mobile-first news destination. Ritu Kapur, co-founder, Quintillion Media, will be sharing her insights into how storytelling and narratives have evolved for the smaller screens.

Ping Network (http://www.pingnetwork.com) is another of India’s leading MCNs, and has built substantial YouTube channels around news, food, auto etc. Govind Ethiraj (https://twitter.com/govindethiraj)• , co-founder of Ping Network and IndiaSpend, will give a perspective on scale, technology and content.

• Viacom18 (http://www.viacom18.com) has just recently launched an OTT platform called Voot. Gaurav Gandhi/Akash Banerjee (CEO/Mktg Head) will talk about how the masses have taken to online video.

Once the gyaan ends, we'll have an open networking session and chai-shai for the attending journalists, technologists, product heads, investors and entrepreneurs.

We are still lining up more speakers, so if you know anyone with a great product/platform in the (digital) #VideoxNews space, let us (the hosts) know via Facebook Messages. Do RSVP on this event's Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/events/1500269190303209/) too + invite others you think might be interested.
