Introduction to Git and GitHub

Details
After our Summer break, we're going to kick things off again with an evening version of the Learning Lunch. So here's another chance to spend an hour introducing yourself to Git and GitHub.
Git is a version control system which keeps track of changes on a project and Github is a website for sharing code tracked with Git. Together these tools open up a world of open source projects which you can use and improve. More than that, they enable and encourage new ways of collaborating, which could change how you organise and conduct your projects. We will work through a few examples of how Github could help you on your projects.
If you'd like to join in, please install Git and register at Github before the session.
Once again we've booked some tables at Ziferblat on Edge Street in the Northern Quarter, a venue which charges 6p a minute per person. It includes superfast Wi-Fi, unlimited free coffee, tea, soft drinks, waters, cakes, biscuits, toast, savoury snacks and cereals. That works out at about £3.60 for an hour. It was a pretty good deal last time.
