Aaaaand it's time for another night of media-geeking with great presentations, and networking with smart, creative people and free beer!
We're also pleased to hold the meetup at the Notman House's new meeting space, which they recently finished refurbishing. It's lovely.
Here are our speakers for this edition:
Kathryn Presner (http://kpresner.com/) - She's a Happiness Engineer (yes, that's her title) for Automattic, makers of WordPress, a company whose employees are spread around 180 cities worldwide. As she says, " Automattic is one tech firm that, for the most part, gets remote work very right." She will talk about what works when working in a distributed team -- and what doesn't.
Julia Evans (http://jvns.ca/) - A data scientist to the core, Julia means business when she gets her hands on big data. She once made 400 charts of Bixi bike data (one for each station) to see what stories she could find. She'll share some of her most interesting insights form exploring local, easy-to-get open datasets.
Josée Plamondon (http://joseeplamondon.com/) - A regular in hackathons and open data initiatives, Josée is passionate about transparency and civic involvement. She strongly believes that having data isn't enough, and that open data doesn't always mean good data.
