We'd like to make Hacks/Hacks a regular thing (again) in Portland. Let's meet up over drinks, and discuss what we'd like to organize in 2015.

Also - about the book. This is one of those "make something out in the open" projects. Right now, there's not much but an outline but you can visit the site, read it on the web or download a PDF, EPUB or MOBI. The main site is www.osjourno.tools and there's a form where you can enter your email address to get updates and another form (https://www.gitbook.com/book/znmeb/osjourno-tools/contact) where you can send a more detailed message.

Some resources for those interested in R:
1. There's an R for Journos email group run by Sharon Machlis of ComputerWorld (@sharon000 on Twitter). It's infrequent at the moment but can get active. rjournos.googlegroups.com
2. Speaking of Sharon Machlis, she's acquired a huge collection of R resources at http://www.computerworld.com/article/2487756/business-intelligence-r-resources-at-computerworld.html
3. My Scoop.it R for Journalists topic: http://www.scoop.it/t/r-for-journalists. Note that for finance topics, I also have http://www.scoop.it/t/algorithmic-trading-and-market-microstructure with some R content, and for general journalism tech things (Python, GIS, etc.) there's http://www.scoop.it/t/frontiers-of-journalism
4. TidyR: http://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/tidyr/vignettes/tidy-data.html

I won't be able to join after all because I'm helping a friend move tonight, but I'd love to hear what comes out of this meeting!

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
