School/Pollution Story Data Hacking

  • October 17, 2013 · 6:00 PM

At our last Meetup we pinned down two projects we want to work on as a group.  One of those projects was based off of a project out of RI called 'not in my back yard'.

This past weekend Remy and Mike did some *seriously* awesome hacking at Hack Upstate and put together a first take example of the project.  More information on what's been done here:

https://github.com/hhroc/traffairious

We will be continuing to hack on that data, and attempt to pull in the rest of the DOT data set into the map.  Some pretty slick technical hurdles to get over with this, so I am sure we'll be putting our thinking caps on.

If you would like to assist, feel free to add an issue/ticket to the git repo (here: https://github.com/hhroc/traffairious/issues - just use the 'new issue' button) and assign it to yourself, or just show up and get assigned a task when we start.

This will be a 'hacking only' event, so bring your box and come caffeinated!

wow, the traffairious project looks like an awesome effort! Eager to see where this goes, and possibly contribute if I can.

I believe there is going to be a conversation about FOIA requests regarding 911 data for Monroe County, and Rochester specifically. If that interests you at all come on out!

Also, if you are interested in getting updates on the status of the school/pollution project, feel free to "star" the project on github ( https://github.com/hhroc/traffairious ). I've been opening issues there in preparation of Thursday night.

    Thanks!
