Our mission is to promote running in the Hampton Roads community.
Who We Are
We are an informal, but active and fun group composed of runners of nearly all fitness levels. We have a passion for running and we share our experience and motivate each other to train consistently.
Running is more fun when done in a group, especially on cold or rainy days and on long distance runs. We encourage runners to sign up and participate in running events of your choice. We are confident you will find a Meetup for your fitness level, interest and running goal.
The Meetup group originally started in Virginia Beach, but lay dormant for several months. The Meetup was restructured in April 2008 and we actively began promoting Meetups. We decided on the name Hampton Roads Runners (HRR) to include the entire Hampton Roads area. As the months passed more runners discovered HRR and we steadily grew from a handful of runners to what it is today.
Meetup.com planned to air a TV commercial and we made the cut out of 37,000 Meetup groups. The commercial did not air because Meetup.com stated "Unfortunately, Obama didn't really say what we expected him to say! He didn't talk about community."

How we operate:
We are not a traditional organization. We are simply a group of runners who schedule Meetups to promote running.
HRR profiles and Meetups will not be used as a platform for coaching services or for other personal business interests. We are independent of all outside entities. However, we may partner with other organizations for certain community events.
We gladly accept donations to cover the cost of keeping the website running.
There are no dues or fees to participate in Hampton Roads Runners.
Release of Liability/Waiver:
I know that running and volunteering to participate in group runs, races, activities, or events we partner with are potentially hazardous activities. I should not participate in any group activity unless I am medically able and properly trained. I agree to abide by group guidelines relative to my ability to safely participate. I assume all risks associated with participating in any group activity including, but not limited to, falls, contact with other participants, the effects of the weather, including high heat and/or humidity, the conditions of the road, off-road terrain and traffic on the various running routes and event locations, all such risks being known and appreciated by me. Having read this waiver and knowing these facts, and in consideration of your acceptance for membership or participation, I, for myself and anyone entitled to act on my behalf, waive and release the Hampton Roads Runners and organizers, assistance organizers, event host, all sponsors, their representatives and successors from all claims or liabilities of any kind arising out of my participation in these group activities even though that liability may arise out of negligence or carelessness on the part of the persons named in this waiver. I grant permission to all of the foregoing to use any photographs, motion pictures, recordings or any other record of group events for any legitimate purpose.
