Jim Castelaz - The Motiv Power Systems Story
Jim Castelaz is Founder and CEO of Motiv Power Systems-- a rapidly growing CleanTech company building the Motiv electric Powertrain Control System (ePCS).
Jim’s fascination for electric vehicles (EV) started at an early age … when he was eight he predicted his own future by drawing an electric car for a class project on what he planned to do when he grew up!
His company spun off of an idea to build electric buses for China. After realizing the capital requirements needed, he pivoted and created the Motiv concept of a modular, scalable power train electronics system (like the operating system in a computer).
Key Motiv Milestones:
2010: Won it’s first grant for $1.3 million from California Energy Commission (CEC).
2012: Named one of Inc.’s GoingGreen Global 200 Companies to Watch.
2012: Won a contract with the City of Chicago for up to 20 trucks (up to $13.4 million).
2013: The CEC granted a $2.4 million grant to install a manufacturing line in San Jose, CA -- Airtronics in San Jose was selected as the vendor.
Jim will share his experiences with:
- Funding (inc. grant writing)
