Care Homes and Assisted Living: in what ways technology can help?

Details

This time we want to bring together people involved in designing and delivering care to elderly and those with long term conditions and tech community to explore how technology can help to improve care of vulnerable patients.

Over the next 20 years all industrialised and developing countries will experience a demographic shift from predominantly younger populations to older ones. As result current care models are unsustainable and inadequate.

In the UK, the number of people aged 65+ will rise from 10.1m to 16.7m over the next 25 years. Estimates state that public spending on social care will need to triple over the next 20 years to keep pace with aging, and there are concerns that the UK’s public services are not well-placed to cope.

Clearly this creates opportunities for innovative approaches where better use of data and technology are needed to deliver better care for people as they age and those with long term conditions.

We are aiming for inspirational talks and insightful discussion in a relaxed atmosphere with networking opportunities hopefully leading to interesting valuable contacts being made and ideas nurtured.

Speakers BIOs:

Phil Rigby– Transformation Manager – Liverpool City Council

Phil established the iNnovation Network (iN) as LCCs response locally to the challenges facing Social Care service providers in Liverpool. Phil will be talking about how, by enabling a space to explore collaboration and technology, the iN has developed a reputation for projects that deliver bold and creative solutions within the ever challenging environment of public service transformation. This has included the UKs first Adult Social Care Hackday, speed dating organisations and establishing open innovation roundtables between adult social care commissioners and providers.

Kath Wallace – Health and Wellbeing Commissioning Manager – Liverpool City Council

Kath has responsibility within Liverpool City Council for the strategic commissioning of short term interventions for vulnerable people; with a focus on addressing social exclusion, for example homelessness, and substance misuse and addressing cross-cutting issues such as housing. Developing short-term interventions has included the expansion and implementation of Telecare to support people with care and support needs to live independently – Kath leads on Telecare and is the Council’s link into Liverpool’s dallas project. Prior to working for Liverpool, Kath has worked across a range of disciplines including Health, Third Sector agencies and Housing. She has a particular interest in the nature and effectiveness of collaboration across organisations and sectors.
