Health Hacker Hours: Building HIPAA-compliant applications

On September 23, the HIPAA regulations changed. Business associates are now directly liable for a new set of compliance duties. This talk is for those who are wondering what the changes mean for startups and developers.

Chas Ballew from Aptible will discuss the basic HIPAA/HITECH requirements, how they apply to developers, and some specific technical approaches to handling ePHI. Come with questions about various cloud providers, web frameworks, db configurations, servers, load balancing, security, and anything else you can think of.

If there is interest, I will make that audit protocols page easier to read and interact with. That was something that Frank and I were using internally. I put it on our production site like 40 minutes before the talk.

Also, as mentioned last night, the free raffle for the NYeC Digital Health Conference is still open. Will draw names for the three free tickets late tonight.

With only six entries so far, chances of winning are strong: https://gist.github.com/mikecarroll/7016970

Yes, thanks to Chas for a great presentation!

Also, here's the link to the HIPAA audit protocols section of Aptible's site that I saw a lot of people e-mailing themselves on their phones last night: https://www.aptible.com/protocols

If anyone has specific questions about a certain stack, let me know beforehand and we can dive into the details.
