The assessment of medical apps: the October meetup
Details
Prof Jeremy Wyatt from Leeds University and Tom Lewis from Warwick University have kindly agreed to speak on the key attributes that their research has revealed are required for an mHealth app to be successful and safe.
They are both working at the cutting edge of risk assessment and safety for medical apps so this event should appeal to anyone working in the field of medical apps, or who uses or recommends others to use them. When a decision is finally taken in the UK about which organisation will assess the benefits of medical apps, so that doctors can compare their effectiveness with other forms of treatment, notably drugs, there is no doubt that both Jeremy's and Tom's work will figure highly in the assessment processes that are established, so they are required listening!
As many of you will be aware they have jointly authored a paper entitled "mHealth and Mobile Medical Apps: A Framework to Assess Risk and Promote Safer Use" that has just been published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research (at http://www.jmir.org/2014/9/e210/ ). Doubtless the framework will figure strongly in their presentations.
As usual please aim to arrive at 6.15 so we can start at 6.30pm. After the presentations there should be plenty of time for questions & debate before we close formal proceeding and start the networking session by 8pm.
